The Stichting Schaakschool Indische Buurt is an ANBI-recognized organization based in the Batjanzaal at Batjanstraat 68 in Amsterdam's Indische Buurt.

The Indische Buurt is a former Vogelaarwijk, or priority neighbourhood. Some residents face financial, language, and social disadvantages, as well as social isolation.

From the Batjanzaal, the Chess School organizes social and cultural activities for children and adults. One of its main objectives is to promote personal and social development and, in doing so, contribute to the development of the Indische Buurt.

For children, we organize after-school and extracurricular chess lessons, creative activities, chess tournaments, and holiday camps. For adults, we offer courses, gatherings, and activities related to film, music, philosophy, and the performing arts.

The Batjanzaal has a modern kitchen and digital lighting and sound equipment. These facilities can further strengthen the venue's role within the neighbourhood.

The Stichting Schaakschool Indische Buurt originated from a community initiative started in 2007 by Mustapha el Jarmouni, who has lived in Amsterdam East for many years. He began giving chess lessons in 2007. The initiative grew into a community-oriented organization with a diverse range of activities and projects for residents of all ages. Some activities now also take place elsewhere in Amsterdam.
